Spend a Sunday in downtown Akron in Akron’s Historic Arts District. Start at the Akron Farm & Flea in the parking lot of Musica complex now in its third season. There you’ll find all your favorite Crafty Mart vendors all featuring local handmade items, along with tasty treats from local small producers. The Swenson’s Drive-In truck, featuring the classic foods people in the area have been enjoying since 1939, will be the food truck this month; Urban Eats and Premier Crepes Food will be offering tasty treats too. Musica’s bar will open at 11am.
In addition, there’ll be mini-fashion shows throughout the market hours, with clothing from the vintage vendors who sell at the market for what they’re dubbing their “Vintage Fashion Show Farm and Flea Market.” Hillbilly Savant and the Village Bicycle will provide live music to browse by. The market runs from 10am-2pm.
Then mosey up the street to the Summit Artspace for its Dog Days of Summer event from noon-4PM hosted by the nonprofit Rubber City Prints. Your dog will have the opportunity to make a paw “print.” There’ll be treats, a pool and toys for him/her as well as plenty of other dogs to make friends with. Yeah, there’ll be stuff for humans too. The $25 admission ($10 for each additional pet) supports community arts programming. You can bring your dog to the Farm & Flea beforehand.
Don’t have a dog? After visiting the Farm & Flea, head across the street to the Akron Art Museum and check out Myopia, the show of work by DEVO co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh. The museum is open from 11an-5m on Sunday.
