Author Jonathan Frantzen hit the public consciousness — hard! — with his 2001 best seller The Corrections. It earned effusive praise as he was hailed as the leading, standard-setting novelist of his generation and even compared to Charles Dickens. He also garnered some shallower attention for criticizing Oprah Winfrey’s book club after being chosen as one of its selections and making sexist remarks comments that seemed to demean the value of women readers.
He’s followed that up with more highly successful books such as Freedom (2010), Purity (2015 and Crossroads: A Novel, (2021), the latter the first part of a projected trilogy called The Key to All Mythologies.
He’ll be speaking at the Maltz Performing Arts Center in University Circle as part of the Writers Center Stage series. Go here for more information and tickets.
