The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has announced that the honoree for the 21st annualMusic Master series, a week-long event devoted to exploring the career of a Rock Hall inductee, will be country singer Johnny Cash. He was inducted into the Rock Hall in 1992.

Although the schedule of events has not been announced, other than the traditional gala concert at the the State Theatre Fri 10/21, the programs typically include films, lectures, panels and evening concerts. The galas feature artists associated with the honoree as well as those influenced by them, and given that Case’s extended family includes several other musicians, it’s likely a couple of those will perform.

While the usual rock purists will complain that Cash was primarily a country singer, his distinctive style influenced many artists in the roots rock and Americana genres. However, his induction and now his place as artist of honor in the Music Master Series makes the omission from the Rock Hall of the even more influential Patsy Cline starker.

Schedule and ticket information will be announced next month. $300 VIP tickets for the gala are available now at the Rock Hall website.
