Historian Looks at the Relationships Between Presidents & the Press

Wed 1/27 @ 7PM

While all presidents have at times had contentious relationships with the media, there’s never been one as poisonous as that of Trump, who popularized the phrase “fake news” to describe anything he felt was less than worshipful to him, no matter how accurate.

Presidential historian Harold Holzer published a timely new book this summer titled The Presidents vs. the Press: The Endless Battle between the White House and the Media–From the Founding Fathers to Fake News. In it he explores how presidents have handled the press, with its First Amendment-protected freedom, throughout the course of American history.

Holzer will talk at a live-streamed event hosted by the Hudson Library & Historical Society on Wednesday January 27. The event is free and open to all, but registration is required. Go here to sign up. Copies of Holzer’s book will be available for purchase through Hudson’s Learned Owl Book Shop. https://www.learnedowl.com
