Fri 5/19 @ 11AM
CAN Journal, the Cleveland visual arts quarterly, typically has a launch party for each new issue at one of the galleries in its network. The launch for its summer issue takes place this Friday May 19 at the Abattoir Gallery in the Hildebrandt Building.
But pay attention: it takes place at 11am instead of the usual evening hours. That isn’t a typo! The reason is that it will be hosting a live Zoom chat from the U.S. Pavilion at the Venice Biennale Architettura and there’s a big time difference! Cleveland’s SPACES Gallery was chosen to put together it 2023 exhibition, which among others, features Lauren Yeager who has exhibited at Abattoir. The theme for its contribution is Everlasting Plastics, looking at how plastics impact the environment and the economy and ways in which they can be shifted into other forms and uses. Yeager’s photography and sculpture centers on found objects, many of them plastic.
Curators Tizziana Baldenero of SPACES and moCa curator Lauren Leving will be talking with Clevelanders on large screens in the gallery. Doors open at 11am, Zoom chat starts at 11:30am. Then hang out and talk with artists and arts supporters and pick up your copy of the new CAN Journal. The event is free and open to all.
