Solo guitar specialists always attract an audience of guitar players, hungry to hear how other musicians are exploring the boundaries of the instrument. And instrumental players are performing music that speaks across language barriers.
Italy’s Beppe Gambetta has built an international audience with his flat-picking steel guitar playing, touring Europe and America with music that integrates his interest in traditional folk and popular Italian music, as well as influences from other European countries. His collaborations with noted names such as David Grisman, Gene Parsons of the Byrds and Doc Watson have spread his reputation, as have his numerous recordings including his most recent, 2015’s Round Trip, a collaboration with Scottish guitarist Tony McManus.
He’ll be back at Nighttown, where he’s performed to large, appreciative audiences four previous times. Cleveland’s Pete Cavano opens. Tickets are $20.
