Cleveland Public Theatre is known for its extensive development process, often presenting the same work at different phases of development over a period of several years. And it’s offered series dedicated to works in progress such as its Test Flight series which kicks off this week. It launches with Van Sonata by Anthony X and directed by Ananias J. Dixon. It’s described as “a reading, an exploration, a play in fragments.”
“Van Sonata is a quilt of three storylines tied together: a Black British composer’s first tour in America while being interviewed by a Black newspaper, two Black reporters uncovering a myth, and two musicians in a romantic and artistic partnership,” says the synopsis, “It’s about media, music, and myths, and how claiming space is a physical act.”
The cast of four includes Wesley Allen, Malachi Beasley and Nomè SiDone, Avery LaMar as assistant director handling stage directions.
It’s not quite time to be back in the house, so this production will be on Zoom. Tickets are $1, or more if you feel inclined. Once you buy your ticket, you’ll receive the link an hour or two before showtime. Go here to buy them.
