Chicago Artist/Curator Michelle Grabner, Who Put Together FRONT Last Year, Speaks at Kent State

Thu 4/18 @ 5-7PM

 Fri 4/19 @ noon-1PM

Cleveland came to know Chicago-based artist/curator/writer Michelle Grabner when she curated the inaugural northeast Ohio FRONT International Triennial last year. But she’s also a noted artist herself with a practice that includes painting, drawing, video and sculpture, and an educator who chairs the painting and drawing department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Grabner has returned to northeast Ohio to be the juror for Kent State University’s annual Stratosphere exhibition of undergraduate artwork. This year’s show, with the theme of “Global Identity,” features 20 students majoring in art, fashion and architecture. It opens at the KSU Downtown Gallery on Thu 4/18 @ 5-7pm when Grabner will present awards, and remains on view through Fri 5/3.

On Fri 4/19, Grabner will give an artist talk at the Center for the Visual Arts at Kent State, 325 Terrace Drive, room 165, on campus. Titled “The Work I Do,” she’ll be talking about both her own work and her curatorial process. The lecture is free and open to all.
