Like all other large performance ensembles, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra found that venues simply weren’t hosting 18-piece groups — social distancing onstage was impossible. So it came up with the idea of the CJO Little Big Band to perform smaller scale show and provide its musicians with work.
It also offered the group to perform in different styles than its regular concerts offered, play in different types of venues and connect with new audiences and musical collaborators. For instance, it collaborated with the Cleveland Composer’s Guild, and musicians such as organist Eddie Bacchus, sax player Ernie Krivda and trumpet player Dominic Farinacci, among others. It’s also performed with violinist Reed Simon and vocalist Evelyn Wright, and that’s the show it’ll do tonight at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge.
Doors open at 6pm for the 7pm general admission show. Get tickets here.
