Wed 1/30 @ 7PM
It seems like a couple of times a decade we hear that Cleveland is going to become the next great movie-filming capitol of America. And while those promises never seem to pan out in a big way, there’s always a frisson of excitement when a company does come here, even to film a few scenes.
Ivan Schwarz is the head of the Great Cleveland Film Commission, tasked with trying to line up reality with the hype (and probably with creating some of the hype too!). In that job since 2007, he’s worked to attract such films as Draft Day, Funsize, Kings of Summer, Captain American: The Winter Soldier and The Avengers, the latter of which shot scenes for a month in late summer 2011 in downtown Cleveland and other parts of NE Ohio.
Schwarz will talk about such shoots and what Cleveland has done to provide what film companies need in terms of location, manpower and technical support at the Music Box Supper Club as part of its Cleveland Stories series.
Admission to the 7pm program is free. As always, there’s a $20 fixed-price three-course dinner themed to the subject of the evening. This week it’s the Hulk, Chicken Schwarma and Superman Ice Cream. Doors open for dinner @ 5pm. Make reservations here: (No reservations are needed for the program).
