Celebrate a Double CD Release of Local Rootsy Music at Jilly’s in Akron

Fri 3/10 @ 8PM

Tracey Thomas Shepard has been one of Akron’s standout vocalists for more than 40 years. She was the area’s hot new wave chick back in the 80s with Unit 5; in the 90s she made a comeback with a series of singer-songwriter albums. Most recently she’s performed Americana, blues and jazz with a variety of local musicians.

One of those is a duo called the Crowders, which includes herself and Benjamin Payne, who produced her latest album, My Roots Are Showing. They perform material from both of their catalogs as well as music they’ve written together more recently.

Payne is also a member of the rootsy band Yankee Bravo who have a new CD called Carolina Sky. They’ll be celebrating their new release this weekend at Jilly’s Music Room in Akron, while Shepard and Payne open performing material from My Roots Are Showing.

Says Shepard, “We never did get a proper CD release on that record because of the pandemic. We did a live on the Facebook release party at Jilly’s Music Room, but not the same as people, hanging together. I hope some of you will come out and support your long winded Akron lady …me, as well as, Benjamin William Payne, Mark Shengle, Cory Bandrowsky as we visit our Crowders persona and then support Yankee Bravo in celebrating their new and wonderful CD Carolina Sky.”
