One of the most predictable events droughts on the calendar is the week after New Year’s, when people are hibernating and/or recovering from the holidays. The Grog Shop uses this as an opportunity to showcase local bands during the first weekend in January when it hosts four days of free music by area artists.
It kicks off on Thu 1/2 with “progressive psychedelic fusion” band Electric Orange Peel, Akron psych-reggae rockers Land of Panda, heavy funk/jazz trio Pure Dawg and DJ Jimmy Mac. Friday is all dance music with Besto Day, DJ Ceven, DJ Nuera and DJ Know-1.
On Saturday catch the churning, metallic Lo-Pan (pictured), Youngstown’s Rebreather, indie noise rockers Hiram-Maxim and sludgy metal band Sparrowmilk. The weekend wraps up on Sunday with the poppish Sammy Slims, electronic soundscape project NATURE (Nate Eberhart), Factual Brains and DJ/producer/guitarist ZOD1AC.
Once again, it’s FREE. So take a chance and check out some music you don’t know anything about. You have nothing to lose.
