Acoustic Trio The Howlin’ Brothers Closes Riverdog Barn Season

Sat 10/15 @ 7:30PM

Riverdog Barn’s concert season draws to a close this week as the cooler weather sets in. And it will end with a Riverdog favorites and frequent visitors: Nashville-based old-time string band The Howlin’ Brothers.

The trio was formed by Ian Craft (fiddle, mandolin, banjo) and Jared Green (guitar, harmonica) in 2003 during their college days in Ithaca, NY; it now also includes upright bassist Ben Plasse. It’s based on their love of traditional blues and bluegrass but they also draw on folk, country, jazz and gospel to create their polyglot sound. Their high-energy acoustic sets feature both traditional tunes and their own compositions written in a similar style.

“What is there to say about The Howlin’ Brothers?” the folks at riverdog ask rhetorically. “They come every year, usually drawing one of the largest crowds of the year, they are top-flight musicians with a distinctive sound and they pretty much define what it is  about roots/Americana music that we love. If you haven’t experienced them, now is the time.”

They also warn you should probably grab tickets while you can. Go here.
