Enjoy Drinks, Snacks and Jazz at Heights Arts’ Art Bar Evening

Thu 6/29 @ 7-8:30PM

The great thing about the jazz scene in northeast Ohio is that its large group of respected, brilliant elders is matched by is cohort of up-and-coming young talent.

Pianist Theron Brown is just 36 but he’s already accomplished so much in the area and beyond it. The Akron-based Zanesville native’s skills encompass both jazz and classical music, in which he’s earned degrees at the University of Akron. He teaches jazz piano at Kent State University and he’s co-founder/director of Akron’s Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival. He serves on the boards of the Akron Civic Theatre and Akron’s indie Nightlife Cinema, among others. He even appeared in the Miles Davis bio film Miles Ahead as a young Herbie Hancock.

Brown leads his own trio, which includes two other rising young jazz artists, drummer Zaire Darden and bassist Jordan McBride, both recent Oberlin grads. Here them showcase their impressive musical skills at Heights Arts’ latest Art Bar evening, which will also feature a couple of specialty cocktails, beer and wine, and various sweet and savory snacks.
