This past week you could certainly have seen plenty of winter scenes just by glancing out your window. But if you’d like to see how artists over the last 150 or so years have depicted snowy scenes in different places and times of day, ranging from landscapes with forests, dunes and freshets, to small farm houses and mansions, with school children, churchgoers and a hunter, the Canton Art Museum, has gathered together a group of works, including paintings and ceramics pieces, of such scenes and posted them online in a gallery “inspired by winter” here.
“Enjoy some seasonal inspiration from our collection!” says Curator of Collections Kaleigh Pisani-Paige.
In addition, they’re sharing a group of Christmas cards designed by artist Merv Corning, mostly featuring vintage-style Santas and old-fashioned toy-like vehicles.
All the museum’s current shows, which run through March 7, 2021, are currently viewable online as well. They include Dancing in the Light: Masterworks from the Age of American Impressionism; 60 Proof: Six Decades of Whiskey Painters of America; Ceramics for the Anthropocene: Dennis Meiners; and In the Garden: Nature’s Beauty from the CMA Collection.
