Two Local Groups Join Forces for an Evening of “3rd Stream” Music

Wed 3/29 @ 7PM

The musical talent here in Cleveland is nearly bottomless and that includes talented composers. The 50-year-old Cleveland Composers Guild encourages the composition of new classical music, while the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, founded in 1985, performs traditional big band jazz, new arrangements of standards and new compositions by its own members as well as other contemporary composers.

The two groups are joining forces to present an evening of what’s known as “3rdStream” music: compositions that draw from both jazz and classical music (Examples are George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and John Coltrane’s Sketches of Spain.) It will feature eight new pieces.

The concert takes place at the BOP STOP and will also be livestreamed on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page.
