Akron’s Tuesday Musical Association is primarily known for presenting international classical chamber ensembles at E.J Thomas Hall. In fact, it’s the oldest presenter of such music in the region, formed in 1887.
Last year, it started a new series, called Music al fresco, taking place on the front lawn of West Akron’s historic Barder House, inviting attendees to bring a blanket, lawn chair and picnic to listen to world music by local ensembles.
Passport 2022 features three concerts, with two performances of each. They start this week with French café jazz and American ragtime from the classically trained musicians of Cleveland’s Opus 216, who’ll bring an all-new program from the one they did last year. Cleveland’s Alla Boara will perform traditional Italian folk music on Sunday August 28 and, skipping Labor Day weekend, Justo Saborit & Havana Nights will bring Cuban jazz to the lawn on Sunday September 22.
Get a “frequent flyer” pass for all three concerts for $50 or single tickets for $20. In case of rain, the concerts move to Guzzetta Recital Hall on the University of Akron campus. Go here for tickets.
