Before kicking off their 2016-2017 season, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra has a couple of late summer appearances on their schedule.
On Friday evening, they’ll be featured at Tremont’s Arts in August, taking place on an outdoor stage in Lincoln Park. The environment there is casual — bring your chair or blanket and your munchies and enjoy the (hopefully pleasant) summer evening weather. The eclectic program includes music by Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and some Dixieland jazz as well. They’ll be joined by Cleveland-based jazz/pop vocalist Helen Welch. It’s free.
On Saturday evening, you can have dinner with your jazz when they perform an evening of music by two of the influential giants of big band music, Count Basie and Stan Kenton, at the Music Box Supper Club. Welch will be joining them for this show as well. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door.
