Global Percussionist Offers a Musical World Tour in Kent

Sat 2/25 @ 7PM

The presence of Kent State University provides the tiny town of Kent with an active cultural life as artists, musicians and other creatives move to the area to study or work at the University.

Kent-Based global hand drummer Daniel Kennedy already has a long track record in his specialized field of music. He studied tabla, djembe and frame drums at CalArts and continued his tabla studies at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, California, while expanding his knowledge of other drumming styles such as the Arabic tambourine and Brazilian pandeiro and Persian drumming. Before moving to Kent, he taught at Sacramento State University where he led the percussion studio and ensemble; he’s performed extensively in the San Francisco area, as well as toured Europe, Bali, Japan, Mexico and the U.S.

You can take an international percussion tour without leaving Standing Rock Cultural Arts’ North Water Street Gallery when he performs a concert there featuring drums from Cuba, Brazil, Italy, Ghana, Turkey, Egypt and India. There’s a meet-and-greet at 7pm, followed by the concert at 7:30. There’s a $10 suggested donation to support SRCA’s activities.
