Cleveland Cello Society Reschedules Its Snowed-Out February Benefit

Fri 4/8 @ 7:30PM

Remember that blizzard back in early February when pretty much everything including public transit was shut down? The Cleveland Cello Society’s annual fundraiser i Cellisti — their first in-person version in three years — was one of the casualties. They’re giving it another shot and hoping for no fluke April blizzard, which doesn’t look like it’s in the cards.

The program remains the same. The annual ensemble extravaganza will feature newly arrived Baldwin Wallace University cello professor Dr. Khari Joyner, who’ll perform his own solo cello composer PetrolMusic.

But he’s only one part of a whole lot of cello power that will be onstage at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights. Students from his cello studio, as well as those of Case Western Reserve University faculty members Bryan Dumm and Ida Mercer, Bowing Green State University’s Brian Snow and Wooster College’s Mingya Zhao will do ensemble performances. And there’ll be duos performed by Cleveland Orchestra Principal Mark Kosower and First Assistant Principal Richard Weiss, and Mingyao Zhao.

There’ll also be a performance by a super-sized group of 24 cello players, including members of the Cleveland Orchestra, area teachers, students and even amateurs, performing baroque composer David Funck’s Suite and the jazz-style work DMO by Shirl Jae Atwell.

Tickets are $30, $5 for students, $100 for supporting patrons, and all proceeds go to the Cleveland Cello Society’s scholarships.
