Here’s a shocker: the Cleveland Orchestra opens its Blossom Music Center season with a program called “Tchaikovsky’s Spectacular 1812 Overture and Other Favorites.” (The 1812 overture on Independence Day weekend? Gee, why has no one ever thought of that before?)
The orchestra, conducted by former resident conductor and now music director of the San Diego Symphony Jahja Ling and joined by young jazz pianist from Columbus Aaron Diehl in his Cleveland Orchestra debut, will perform some Gershwin (Concerto in F and Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture) and well as Dmitri Shostakovich’s Tahiti Trot. And one more not-so-surprising thing: the 1812 Overture will be accompanied by fireworks, weather permitting.
Tickets are $24-$89.
