Are you one of those people who tries to avoid jury duty at all costs? Maybe you might want to rethink that. Why?
Come to the monthly Happy Dog Takes on the World discussion at the Happy Dog in Gordon Square for a discussion on how citizen participation in the judicial systems of Japan and East Asia affects the political environment and social culture. Learn how including ordinary citizens helps to ensure justice, educate people about how the judiciary works and foster civic engagement.
The discussion will explore how some major countries in Asia and others around the world have only recently incorporated ordinary citizens into their justice systems, in contrast to others where jury systems have been under attack.
WCPN host Tony Ganzer will talk with University of Akron Professor of Law Matthew J. Wilson about the justice systems in Japan, South Korea, China and other countries in East Asia.
It’s free and open to all.
