Pavement’s Bob Nastanovich Spins Vinyl at Parma Brewery

Fri 8/19 @ 8:30-11:30PM

Few bands are more beloved by indie rock hipsters than Pavement, the Stockton, California band, founded in 1989, who were a major influence on so many other bands in the ’90s, despite resisting the siren song of major labels courting any indie band of note in the wake of Nirvana’s success.

The band is currently on a second reunion tour (they broke up as a fulltime band in 1999 when their decade ran out, but previously did a reunion tour in 2010). But, in a throwback to the days when it seemed like every influential indie band was bypassing Cleveland, its nearest date is in Detroit.

But Clevelanders can get a little taste of Pavement. Percussionist/vocalist Bob Nastanovich, who joined shortly after the band originally formed, is coming to town, thanks to Rudy’s Strudel owner Lidia Trempe and The Current Year Records and Tapes, both located in Parma.

They’re bringing him to Schnitz Ale Brewery (in Parma, of course) to spin indie rock vinyl @ 8:30-11:30pm Friday August 19. Trempe is working with the band to creative Pavement pierogi varieties for that night, to be paired with beer flights. Both Trempe and The Current Year owners Michael and Marie Stutz are devoted Pavement fans, whose dedication paid off in snagging this coup. All money raised with go to All Faiths Pantry, which provides food to needy seniors in Parma.

“I’ve been thrilled and amazed by a group of Pavement enthusiasts striving to get our band to play at a local football stadium for some time,” says Nastanovich. “Led by Lidia at Rudy’s and the Stutzes, the effort has been heartening. I figured the least I could do is come visit, spin a variety of weird tunes and try to raise some dinero for a good cause. I love the Cleveland area and it’s been too long.”

Tickets are $10 for general admission; seating is limited so grab your tickets now. Get more info here.
