It’s become a tradition for Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band to play a day-after-Christmas “Holiday Revival” show, first at the House of Blues and more recently, at the Music Box Supper Club. And they were forging ahead with this year’s show, although without a live audience — only as a livestreamed performance.
Alas, one of the members of the P.L.U.S. Band has tested positive for COVIC-19, scotching that plan. But stepping in to do the honors is another “Jones” band — theatrical rockers Apostle Jones, led by vocalist Mikey Silas.
They’re relatively new to the Cleveland music scene, having formed about two years ago. But their sound harks back to the classic rock of the late ’60s and early ’70s, when the music of bands like Traffic, the Allman Brothers, Blind Faith and Humble Pie laced with blues and soul.
Despite the pandemic, this has been a music-making year for the group. They released their first album Live from Cleveland, which featured a broadcast they did for Case Western Reserve’s radio station WRUW 91.1 FM on March 5, just before the shutdown. They followed it up in September with a four-song EP called Lilith, with three new songs Silas wrote while in quarantine. They also played this year’s online version of Pride in the CLE in September.
The show, produced by Music America as part of the “Out of the Box” live-stream concert series at the Music Box Supper Club, will be hosted by TV-3 anchor Dawn Kendrick. You can watch the stream for free here or here. Or you can buy a $10 Zoom ticket for an interactive experience, which includes the chance to take part in contests and win prizes during the event.
