Jazz Singer Vanessa Rubin to Perform for BOP STOP Re-Opening

Sat 5/1 @ 7PM

Halleluia! The BOP STOP is officially opening this weekend for live, inside audiences, after maintaining a packed schedule of live streamed shows for many months (those will continue, giving patrons a choice of live or streamed concerts).

The bad (good?) news is that people are so hungry to go out and hear live music that its kickoff event, with Cleveland jazz/pop/blues vocalist Vanessa Rubin, a longtime favorite in northeast Ohio jazz clubs, is already sold out. But it will still be streamed on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page.

Rubin headed to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University, got a degree in journalism and moved to New York to pursue her career — and as far as music goes, she’s done pretty well. She’s released eight albums and performed with numerous jazz legends including the Jazz Crusaders, Toots Thielemans, Grover Washington, Jr., Herbie Hancock and the Woody Herman Orchestra. She’s also known for her skillful interpretations of Billie Holiday tunes, one of a multitude of influences, along with Freddie Cole, Carmen McRae, Nancy Wilson and even Motown. She’s also championed the works of fellow Cleveland native, composer/arranger/pianist Todd Dameron.

“I started in Cleveland with a swinging organ trio and now I am back to my roots,” she says. “Coupled with a venue that hosts one of the best sunsets in the city and where every seat in the house is a good seat…. well it’s just a recipe for a great evening of fun and song. See you there Cleveland!”

It’s free to watch the stream but you can also donate for the musicians here.
