Akron Art Museum Family Day Shares How to “Toy With Art”

Sat 12/12 @ 10AM, 12PM & 2PM

One of the most engaging pieces in the Akron Art Museum is one by a local Hudson-based artist named LA Wilson, who died in 2018 at the age of 93. She created her work out of the bits and pieces of every-day life, stuff you might find in your kitchen catch-all drawer. She found her materials at junk stores, flea markets, yard sales and on the street, not in art supply stores. Like the noted surrealist Joseph Cornell, she arranged the objects in boxes to create intriguing little worlds.

Her world is the inspiration for the Akron Art Museum’s latest Family Day, called “Toy With Art.” It encourages participants to make toys and other artworks using things they might find lying around their house. The program premiers online on Facebook and YouTube Saturday December 12 @ 10am, 12pm and 2pm.
