Mulberry Creek Herb Farm is a great place to know about if you like to grow your own. The family-owned organic farm in Huron offers the largest selection of herbs you’ll find anywhere in the region, along with vegetable starters, flowering plants, scented geraniums, succulents and fairy plants and accessories for fairy gardens, and free advice.
The farm also hosts its annual herb fair on its beautiful, expansive grounds. Its front meadow is filled with local artisan vendors who sell things such as jewelry, garden ornaments, pottery, stained glass, herbal skincare products, sewn, crocheted and knitted items, crystals and rocks, honey, olive oils and vinegar, paper products, antiques and much more. It hosts demos and talks in its picnic pavilion, performances and tours of its outdoor gardens, redesigned each year to reflect the year’s theme.
This year’s theme is Spain. So Cleveland’s Abrepaso Flamenco will be doing a 1pm performance each day, with an 11am class on Saturday and a 3pm class on Sunday. Saturday talks will include Spanish tapas (10:30am), collagraphic etched art (11:30am), saffron (12:30pm), Gardens of Spain tour (1:30pm) and paella (2:30pm). And there’ll be yoga by the faery garden at 2:30pm. On Sunday, learn abut olive oils and bread-dipping herbs at 10:0am, sacred herbs at 1130am, growing mushrooms at 12:30pm, olives, garlic, rosemary and bread at 1:30pm, and paella at 2:30pm
And there’s more! The Fireland Home Brew Club is hosting BREW U classes at noon each day, with a beer tasting (extra cash) at 2pm.
Food? You bet! They weren’t able to track down a Spanish-style food truck, so you’ll have to settle for Argentinian, American or BBQ. As always, Mitchell’s ice cream will be there with the scoops. Dress in a Spanish-inspired costume and a spotter in the crowd might give you a coupon for free ice cream.
Admission is $5 per adult each day.
