Relive Akron’s storied musical past with an evening at Jilly’s Music Room featuring ’70s glam punksters the Bizarros.
Formed in 1976, the Bizarros were a collision of the fading glam scene and the ascending punk scene, channeling the New York Dolls through an Akron sensibility with plenty of Roxy Music and Velvet Underground influence. With Akron’s scene sizzling, vocalist Nick Nicholis added fuel to the fire with his Clone label, which spread the word about what was happening musically in the Rubber City.
While the Bizarros disbanded in the mid 80s, they’ve occasionally reunited since 2003 to show audiences today what was what back then.
They’ll be joined by “honky-tonk reggae pop” Akron band, the HiFis. It includes such illustrious Akron music personalities as drummer Rich Roberts (Chi Pig) and keyboard player/vocalist Harvey Gold (Tin Huey.)
