Artist Hilary Gent Talks About Her Water Paintings at HEDGE Gallery

Wed 6/22 @ 5:30-7:30PM

HEDGE Gallery owner Hilary Gent is a tireless promoter of Cleveland artists, representing a stable of some of the best and showing their work in her spacious gallery.

But she’s also a painter herself whose work since 2015 has explored the diverse properties of water, inspired by the changing patterns, looks and moods of Lake Erie. Now she’s showcasing her own work in HEDGE Gallery’s current exhibit Walking on Water, with both her early works in the series and recent work. In which she pours and layers latex paint onto her canvases.

“Each time I came to paint a new canvas, the action of studying the water’s movement led me to a mindset of peace,” she says. “Meditating and praying while physically experiencing the water became a place where coping mechanisms and new revelations made themselves clear. What I deemed impossible was presented as fully possible as I continued to open my heart and mind to what I believe God was speaking while I encountered His watery creation.”

See the show, learn more directly from the artist and have the chance to engage her about her work when she does an artist talk at the gallery. It’s free and open to all.
