Women in the Black Liberation Movement Spotlights in CPT’s “Panther Women”

Fri 2/4-Sat 2/26

Cleveland Public Theatre’s Artistic Associate Indian Nicole Burton has, in CPT style, been developing her new work, Panther Women: An Army for the Liberation, over a period of time and through several iterations.

It had a workshop production last summer, and now it’s coming to CPT’s Gordon Square Theatre for a full production. The seven-woman cast performs what they’re calling a “choreopoem,” telling a story with dance, song, poetry and monologues of three women who were part of the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Movement, celebrating the role of women in the ’60s civil rights movement and their influence today.

The production previews this week on Friday February 4 and Saturday February 5, as well as Thursday February 9, with official opening night on Friday February 11.  It runs Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday @ 7:30pm & Sundays @ 3pm through February 26.

All CPT tickets are “choose what you pay,” whether you order online, on the phone or at the box office.
