Oberlin’s Riverdog Barn brings in folk, rock, country, blues and other Americana and roots-style performers from across the country. But sometimes they pluck someone from close by to showcase the wealth of talent under our noses.
One of these is Rachel & the Beatnik Playboys, featuring sultry vocalist Rachel Brown, whose style harks back to the era of country queen Patsy Cline, with a bluesy edge. She’s joined by some of the area’s most skilled musicians: Guitarist Dave Huddleston, bassist Bill Watson and drummer Roy King to perform music that’s a little bit jazz, a little blues, a little rock & roll and a lot country.
Their first set will start at 8pm, following a “Dinner Hour Open Mic” featuring four pre-selected musicians who will perform for 10 minutes a piece.
As usual you can BYOB and picnic basket; the Grubup food truck will be on site for those who prefer not to come packing. Gates open and food is served at 6. It’s a $15 donation at the gate, $5 for students, free for kids 12 and under. As always, parking reservations are recommended because parking is limited.
