In what may be a depressing omen of how next summer will go, Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls has announced that it’s completely changing up the model of its beloved Art by the Falls, which attracts thousands of visitors to the park along the Chagrin River for a weekend each June to view work by more than 100 artists, watch demonstrations and workshops, and enjoy food and drive. The 2020 event was cancelled. In 2021, it will go forward but look very different.
They write, “With the future of large-scale, in-person events very much unsettled for the immediate future, Valley art Center in Chagrin Falls has moved proactively to bring their largest annual event — Art by the Falls — safely to our community.”
Valley Art Center is reconfiguring Art by the Falls to be a summer-long event, featuring two consecutive indoor shows at Valley Art Center’s Main Gallery. They’ll run June 4-July 7 and July 23-September 1. The artists who were accepted for this years cancelled show will be invited to participate so there will not be a call for entries for 2021. People will be able to see the art in person through socially distanced appointment visits or online in video walkthroughs and VAC’s shop at their website. Depending on pandemic conditions, they may augment the gallery shows with pop-up booth spaces at Valley Art Center or other locations in the Village of Chagrin Falls.
