Cities & Coasts is a project of local musician Nathan Hedges, with a lush, warm sound inspired by bands like the Beach Boys and their “symphonic pop” spawn. Its album, Postcards from the Great Lakes, displays its summery, melodic rock to good advantage. With its sound that has overtones familiar to several generations of rock music listeners, it’s gotten a lot of raves from fans of various ages.
Hedges is assisted by a cast of stellar Cleveland players with guest artists often on hand for a particular performance. So who knows who might show up when the group headlines a holiday showcase of local musicians at the House of Blues’ Cambridge Room.
Also on the bill are Cleveland folk rockers Oldboy, fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist Shawn Brewster. While their sound tends towards the morose and introspective, they’re also capable of rocking out with an anthemic vibe.
The bill is rounded out by Akron’s Ryan Humbert who is known for putting together tribute shows honoring his influences and currently is pushing his traditional honky-tonk country band Shooter Sharp & the Shootouts. But it shouldn’t be forgotten that he’s basically a stellar rock & roll singer/songwriter with a large repertoire of appealing original pop/rock songs.
The show is a great opportunity to check out three of the area’s many talented artists in a single evening. You can get free tickets to the show by emailing info@clemusiccity.com.
