Terrance Simien Hosts a Virtual Mardi Gras Party Via Stocker Arts Center

Sat 2/13 @ 8:30PM

So Mardi Gras is Tuesday February 16 and yes, you should still stay out of bars. If New Orleans can cancel Mardi Gras (and they have), you can stay home too. (In fact, NOLA has cancelled Mardi Gras in the past more than half a dozen times).

If you gotta celebrate though, dredge up last year’s beads and mask, pour yourself a drink at home and tune in — three days early — to Mardi Gras Mambo, a live stream event brought to you by Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Arts Center.

It features Louisiana’s Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience, one of the best known zydeco acts outside their home state, thanks to constant touring. They’ve become big favorites in this area via frequent local performances at places such as the Cain Park Arts Festival. In fact, the last time the band members shared a stage was at the Stocker Arts Center on February 29, 2020 — two weeks before everything shut down.

This time they’ll be playing at the Vermilionville Performance Center in Lafayette, Louisiana.  Simien’s daughter, Marcella Simien, who fronts her own band Marcella & Her Lovers, will be a special guest, and like her dad, she’s been steeped in the Creole culture and music of her native St. Landry Parish since she was a child. They’re also promising that the first 30 minutes will offer some “backstage pass” surprises.

Sign up for free tickets here. They give you 48-hour access to video after the fact if the performance time isn’t good for you.
