PHOTOSTREAM: Labor Day Memories by Anastasia Pantsios

Mon 9/7

Thanks to the ongoing pandemic, the Labor Day parade and picnic, which has taken place annually in Luke Easter Park since the early 70s, won’t be happening this year. Sponsored first by the late congressman Louis Stokes, then by his successor, the late Stephanie Tubbs Jones, and now by her successor Marcia Fudge, the event features a humungous parade down Kinsman Avenue, with bands, cheerleaders, marching ensembles, fraternal groups, labor unions, businesses, government agencies, candidates and office holders and much, much more. It ends up at the park where vendors, information booths and food trucks are set up, and thousands enjoy the holiday with their friends and family.

This year, we’ll all be celebrating at home. So fire up the grill and consider yourselves lucky if you, your friends and family have survived — and look forward to next year. In the meantime, here’s a photo stream looking back at last year, including a large delegation paying tribute to the movie Black Panther. R.I.P Chadwick Boseman.
