Northeast Ohio troupe Cleveland Burlesque turns 19 this year. And it kicks off what looks like another stellar year of shows with its 12th annual Sweetheart Showcase at the Beachland Ballroom.
Called “Pillow Talk Meets Royalty,” its star attraction will be the current Miss Exotic World and #2 on the 21st Century Most Influential Burlesque Figures Top 50, Lou Lou la Duchesse de Riere. The First Nations (Mohawk) performer hails from the Canadian province of Quebec and is based in its major city of Montreal, where she’s performed since 2005. She was named the Queen of 2018 New Orleans Burlesque Festival and won second runner-up and most innovative performer at the 2019 Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, considered neo-burlesque’s crowning event. She’s also an accomplished seamstress and beading artist whose performances have an edgy, goth-influenced style.
Other headliners include Chicago-based boylesque performer Faggety Andy and Cleveland’s own nationally celebrated Queen of Burlesque and founder of Cleveland Burlesque, Bella Sin, named #19 on the Top 50 Most Influential Burlesque Figures. The cast is rounded out by Lola Loveletter, Empress Dupree, Mj Chameli and Hilde Häschenbetty, among others.
