GroundWorks DanceTheater’s Spring Series Features Two World Premiers

Fri 4/21 & Sat 4/22 @ 7:30PM

GroundWorks DanceTheater entered the spring season of its 25th year with a program that features a pair of world premieres.

One of those is temperance by Sidra Bell, a rare bird in the world of white male-dominated choreography, as a Black woman — the first to create a commissioned work for the New York City Ballet. Temperance is described as “an episodic piece that will have GroundWorks’ dancers moving in and out of heightened physical vocabulary and into intimate moments of tenderness.”

The company will also premiere Floating Walls by the company’s artist in residence, Cleveland native Antonio Brown. His work addresses “the physical and psychological space that one encounters when feeling surrounded by walls both in the literal sense and within the imagination.”

The company will open its spring performance series at Akron Civic Theatre’s Knight Stage this weekend, followed by performance at the LatinUs Blackbox Theater at the Pivot Center next weekend. Go here for more information.
