NE Ohio Native Jazz Trumpet Player Opens Akron Art Museum Summer Concert Series

While the series is scaled down, the Akron Art Museum is bringing back its popular, long-running summer concert series Downtown @ Dusk, starting this week.

It’ll kick off with jazz trumpet player Curtis Taylor, who began playing his instrument at age 10 in his native Bedford, Ohio, childhood in Bedford, Ohio, where he began studying his instrument at the age of 10. He majored jazz studies at Michigan State University and earned a masters degree in music at Rutgers University before launching his career as a professional musician. performed with pianist Cyrus Chestnutt at Carnegie Hall and toured Europe with saxophonist James Carter. He’s now based in Southern California where he played on jazz vocalist Gregory Porter’s Grammy-winning 2013 album Liquid Spirit. He’s also got an album of his own, called Snapshot, released in 2019.

He’ll perform at the Akron Art Museum with his quartet. The concert, which s free, takes place in its Bud & Susie Rogers Garden. Go here for more information.
