Back in the mid ’90s, a lot of people in Cleveland’s music scene had very high hopes for the Fifth Wheel. Their earnest, soaring music seemed to fit in perfectly with the bands that were breaking onto the charts then, and their CDs, 1995’s Nothing and 1997’s Therapy for the Sane, were packed with appealingly tuneful songs. But by the time they released In America in 2000, the project had hit a wall and the group disbanded.

Then in 2014, singer Josh Stone and guitarist Jeff Koval began to do some new recording, both new songs and old ones that had never been quite finished. Eventually an album Even Without Wings emerged, and the band played a reunion show at the Beachland last December where old fans lined the stage and sang along with their favorite tunes.

They’re back to play the Beachland Tavern. Folk rockers Oldboy and Wilde open. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door.
