Toronto guitarist Michael Occhipinti, much celebrated and honored in his native country, has made his reputation playing a variety of musical genres. He brings those styles, including jazz, funk, blues and world music, together with Sicilian folk music, in his ensemble the Sicilian Jazz Project. He spent time in Sicily, immersing himself in its culture and brought that information back to the band, which has toured Canada, Italy, the U.S. and Mexico. Their global tour of an album, Muorica, was released last year.
The Sicilian Jazz Project is now returning to the Bop Stop, featuring special guest Laura Campisi, from Palermo by way of Brooklyn, on vocals. Tickets are $15.
