Standing Rock Cultural Arts in Kent closes its 2019 Around the World series with a group they didn’t have to go too far afield to find.
Los Tres Sonidos — Tito De Jesus on lead vocals and maracas, Julio Velez on requinto and Tony Pagan on guitar and backing vocals — hail from Lorain, Ohio. That’s where they’ve honed their “boleros románticos,” romantic ballads for snuggling and slow dancing inspired by similar ensembles from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico and Latin America, and songs by beloved composers such as Pedro Flores and Rafael Hernández.
The group will be celebrating its 30th anniversary show at Standing Rock’s North Water Street Gallery. The performance is preceded by a meet-and-greet with light food and drinks, including fresh green coconut juice, served out of the coconut. That should enhance the evening’s tropical vibes on the chilly night of the winter solstice!
Admission is a $10 donation or pay what you can.

Thank you so much for covering this event! Can you fix the spelling of the band’s name? “Sinidos” should be “Sonidos.”
