So time got away from you and you’re waking up on Christmas Eve day with your grocery shopping for Christmas dinner not done.

Don’t panic. Head over to the West Side Market, which will be open extended hours, from 7AM-6PM. Not only will you be able to patronize an array of local vendors, some of them long-time family-owned businesses, offering produce, meats, baked goods, dairy and more but you’ll be helping a local institution that’s been struggling due to construction in its parking lot (now complete, and despite all the talk about starting a paid parking system, it’s still free).

The market will NOT be open as usual on Sunday and Monday so those vendors can enjoy the holiday themselves.

Also open on Christmas Eve Day is the Coit Road Farmers Market, which will keep its regular Saturday hours from 8am-1pm. This year-round indoor market hosts a group of regulars than includes local farmers, small-scale artisan bakers and of course, market manager Kevin Scheuring’s business Spicehouse, which offering a dizzying array of spices and herbs, both staples and exotic ones, in little $1 bags so you can easily try new ones while maintaining a fresh supply of the old standbys.
