Folk-Pop Artist Jonatha Brooke Performs Free Concert at Oberlin

Thu 11/10 @ 8PM

New England-based folk rock artist Jonatha Brooke first earned widespread public attention with her duo The Story, which she formed with singer Jennifer Kimball in the late 1980s. They came out at a time when earnest women’s music by artists such as Indigo Girls and Sarah McLachlan was getting a lot of attention and although they made only two albums before going their separate way in 1994, they made an impact and attracted many fans.

Brooke has continued to put out releases steadily on her own label, Bad Dog Records, and other artists have covered her highly respected songs. She’s challenged herself with projects such as an off-Broadway play, singing in foreign languages and collaborations.

She’ll be bringing one of those to Oberlin College’s Finney Chapel. It’s called The Cello Songs Project, and she’ll be joined by Oberlin alum Rebecca Arons (’91) on cello and Sean Driscoll on electric guitar and vocals for a conert featuring new arrangements of songs from Brooke’s catalog. Both Brooke and Arons are based in Minneapolis where they worked together on workshop productions of Brooke’s play and co-produced her 2019 EP Imposter.

And the concert is free; no reservations required.
