Ohio is voting for governorand a new U.S. Senate on November 8. Those are the so-called “marquee” races that have gotten a lot of attention. But voters will also be voting for four other statewide offices: attorney general, secretary of state, auditor and treasurer. Most voters probably don’t know the names of the officeholders or their challengers, but they should.
The secretary of state and auditor are on the state redistricting board and both current officials — SoS Frank LaRose and auditor Keith Faber — voted against fair, representative maps (although Faber tried to backpedal a little at the end) and for outsized GOP power. And both, while saying that Ohio’s 2020 election was fair and fraud-free, are floating election conspiracy theories. Faber just came up with a doozy, claiming that the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections (in the largest Democratic county, surely not a coincidence) might be sending the “excess ballot paper” to other states to … it isn’t clear. Cuyahoga BoE director Anthony Perlatti says, “That’s not how things work.” Maybe Faber should take a step back before doing an impersonation of the My Pillow guy. We need to replace him with Taylor Sappington (pictured) and elect Chelsea Clark to replace the sneaky, two-faced LaRose.
As for attorney general Dave Yost, he’s used the office to promote far-right dogma and take away the rights of people he’s supposed to be standing up for. When Roe v. Wade was overturned he raced to the courts to install a state ban on most abortions immediately. He’s spent a lot of his time in office and a lot of taxpayer money joining other rightwing attorneys general promoting a radical partisan agenda. The people of Ohio don’t seem to be high on his list of concerns. Democrat Jeff Crossman will represent ALL Ohioans: regular Ohioans, not special interests such as FirstEnergy and the ECOT charter schools. The Hunger Network has been a priority for him. As for state treasurer Robert Sprague, he’s “honored” to be endorsed by Trump. We need to elect Scott Schertzer to replace him.
