The Fred Hughes Trio — featuring Hughes On piano, Amy Shook on bass and Frank Russo on drums —has been swinging the heck out of clubs in their native Washington D.C. since 1989. Hughes himself is a former member of the U.S. Army’s Jazz Ambassadors, and has played with artist ranging from Arturo Sandoval to Roy Hargrove to Toots Thielemans, and has even conducted such orchestras as the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. The Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra.
They’ll be performing a holiday-themed show called “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” when they make their debut at Akron’s Blu Jazz. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.
