Maltz Performing Arts Center Launches Live Streamed Music Series

Cleveland Jazz Orchestra

Wed 8/5-Sun 9/30 @ 8PM

The usually bustling Maltz Performing Arts Center on the Case Western Reserve camps is quiet right now — well, except for the sound of construction of an addition on the north end.

But the Maltz has reached out to area musicians an ensembles of all types to put together a virtual schedule called LIVE Streamed @ Silver Hall. It will feature concerts every Wednesday and Sunday through September 30 (and who knows, maybe beyond since we don’t know how this pandemic thing will go).

The opening concert takes place on Wednesday August 5, and features the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, a big-band ensemble comprising some of the area’s top veteran and up-and-coming jazz musicians, playing classic jazz standards as well as new compositions.

“We’ve reached out to local artists and ensembles and generated a great and eclectic schedule,” says Maltz Center director Jason Cohen. “All concerts are free and co-promoted by CWRU/MPAC and the Ohio Arts Professionals Network, as well as the artist performing, and gives a real opportunity for these groups to reach their audiences during the pandemic.”

The venue will be empty but the performance will be shot on state-of-the-art video and a broadcast system that includes six high-def remote-controlled cameras.
