Monday’s not the usual dining-out night, but chef Michael Grieve at Rocky River’s Tartine Bistro is planning something special: a five-course dinner that explores the cross-fertilization of French and Vietnamese culinary traditions which occurred during the nearly century-long French occupation of the country then called French Indochina.

“French cuisine is characterized by innovative flavors and elegant presentation and the convergence of these distinctive cultures creates a gastronomic experience filled with a beautiful range of flavors and color,” says Tartine in their come-on.

Come taste treats like French onion pho with charred ginger/fennel/onion/cinnamon brisket or a “deconstructed” Banh Mi/pork belly/pickled vegetables/kimchi/orange chicken pate baguette. Bill Barefoot from Grand Cru wines will pick wines to complement each course. Cost is $65; call 440-331-0800 to make reservations.
