The Cleveland Museum of Art isn’t quite ready to invite people back into the building for its monthly Friday evening MIX party. But in the last couple of months, it’s added them back to its calendar digitally. Given the trend of COVID-19 infections, that’s likely to be the case for a while. So you’ll have a pour your own themed cocktail to join the digital dance party, this month presented in partnership with the Young Latino Network.
Dubbed Viva, the party tips its hat to CMA’s current exhibit A Graphic Revolution: Prints and Drawings in Latin America (which you can stop in and see: the museum is open but you must register and wear a mask). Dance duo Caribe Conexión will teach you some Afro-Caribbean dance steps to try out in your living room — go crazy, there’s no one to laugh at you! — to music provided by Jean Paul Hernandez aka Cause&Effect who’ll play contemporary and classic salsa, merengue, reggaeton and bachata hits. And actor-poet Andree Aaron Valdez, who hosts the Voces Fuertes open mic at the Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center, will offer his response in poetry to one of the prints in the exhibition, Belkis Ayón’s “I Always Return,” to kick things off.
