The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra takes a look at the seminal year of 1968 in its next program, “Dreams from 1968.” It will feature music from that year such as Oliver Nelson’s “The Kennedy Dream,” Herbie Hancock’s “I Have A Dream,” and Maynard Ferguson’s “MacArthur Park,” material that suggests what a transitional, tumultuous time it was.
CJO will be augmented by a gospel chorus, led by Johnnie Parker. They’ll perform at Akron’s Blu Jazz + on Saturday and the Ohio Theatre in Playhouse Square on Sunday. Tickets for Blu Jazz are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Tickets for the Ohio Theatre show are $35-$65.
