Summit Artspace Opens Three Solo Shows & Group Ceramics Show

Sat 7/10-Sat 9/25

Summit Artspace in downtown Akron is about to open a whole flock of new summer shows, in case you’re looking for a cool place to get away from the summer heat and fill your eyes and mind with new art. The shows include three solo shows and a group show by up-and-coming artists who re-imagine their materials to offer new takes on an old medium.

Veteran artist P.R. Miller’s Present and Retro “explores his three principal identities as a junk man, artist, and wizard.” He recycles scraps into large-scale sculptures, many of which are situated in public spaces in Akron.  Helen Wilson’s Botanical Voices featured textured collage landscapes inspired by Cuyahoga Valley National Park. And Chris Hoot’s Sim[plex]cities: Digital Constructs, Visual Music, Liquid Landscapes features landscapes, cityscapes and soundscapes, constructed from layered digital photography, graphics and marbling.

Finally, Included But Not Limited To features emerging artists from Kent who work in ceramics, creating both functional and decorative works enhanced with other media including painting, weaving, embroidery, woodworking, metal fabrication and technology.

The shows will be on view through Saturday September 25. Summit Artspace is open Fridays @ noon-7pm and Saturdays @ 1am-5pm.
